U. S. AIRCRAFT CARRIER DEPLOYMENT HISTORY REFERENCES

With all the history that is available, much could not be presented in this book in order to keep under 750-pages, but further years past 1980 are available on the internet at EQNEEDF’s web site, http://www.uscarrierhistory.com.

For me, I’m inspired to have finally rewrote my Tour of Duty Book and everything positive but folks, an alarming amount of people in the Middle East in countries like Iran and Syria backing Israeli‘s enemies (Arab-Israeli Wars (1948-Present), etc., have a dark and negative out look on life, subservient to an ideology and or religion, dependant upon your point of view..

CVN-72 is named after Abraham Lincoln (1809-1865), 16th President of the United States of America (1861-1865). Abraham Lincoln will be forever remembered for his vital role as the leader who preserved the Union and began a process that led to the end of slavery in the United States. This photo was most likely taken in December 1989. The newly commissioned USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN-72) got underway on 29 November for a 17-day flight deck certification period, with aircraft based at Naval Air Test Center (NATC), Patuxent River, MD. USS Valcour (AGF-1), former AVP-55, a 1,766-ton Barnegat class small seaplane tender, was built at Houghton, Washington, and was commissioned in July 1946, became the first permanent flagship for the Middle East Force in 1961 after an extensive overhaul and redesignation as a miscellaneous command ship. In July 1972, USS La Salle (AGF-3) ex. USS La Salle (LPD-3) replaced Valcour as flagship. Middle East Force ships were the first U.S. military units to take action following the August 2, 1990, invasion of Kuwait when they began Maritime Interception Operations in support of United Nations sanctions against Iraq” (Ref. 359).

USS La Salle (AGF-3) was formally "laid to rest" during a pierside decommissioning ceremony 27 May 2005. La Salle was relieved of its flagship duties by USS Mount Whitney (LCC/JCC 20) during a change of flagship ceremony in Gaeta, Feb. 25, 2005. The ship arrived in Norfolk, va. on 17 March 2005 for the decommissioning process” (Ref.Global Security).
